Why did you choose to become a REALTOR®?
I wanted to become a REALTOR® because I really liked the idea of setting my own schedule. I liked the idea of a career that what I put into it was what I was going to get out of it. I actually really like working with people, so I was excited about that. And I liked the idea that work would be somewhere different every day.
Why C21?
I chose C21 when I had initially intended to interview multiple real estate brands when I got my real estate license. CENTURY 21 Fusion was the first brokerage that I stopped with-I was immediately impressed with their presentation with the tools that they offer for new agents as well as experienced agents. It was just a very warm welcome at that initial meeting, so I actually cancelled the other interviews that I had and decided to sign up with CENTURY 21 Fusion right after that very first meeting.
What is your favourite part about being a REALTOR®?
So, my favourite part about being a REALTOR® is actually getting to be a part of a lot of really big life events that people go through: they get married, they buy a house, they have kids, they want to buy a house, they’re retiring, they might sell their home. All of these are huge moments in people’s lives that I get to be there for, and I think that’s really, really cool.
What is something that you think every buyer should know before getting into real estate?
Every buyer should align themselves with a REALTOR® right at the beginning stages of the process. Your REALTOR® is going to get to know what you’re looking for in a house, [and] they’re going to be able to explain the process in a way that makes sense to you. You want somebody that is going to get to know you and truly represent your best interests in the purchase of that new home. I think it’s really important not to try and time the market-it’s very hard to time the market. People ask me all the time, “when is the right time to buy a house?” The right time to buy a house is when you find a home you love and can afford to buy.
What do you think is the most important change coming for real estate?
Real estate is really, really hard to predict-there have been so many changes over even the past 10 years since I’ve been in the business. And so I’m not going to make any predictions about that, but that’s one of the things that I really, really like about the business. It’s always evolving, it’s always changing, and it doesn’t really get stale.
Tell us a little about yourself.
I grew up in Saskatoon, which is why, I think, I’ve got so many great connections over the different stages of my life. Some things I love to do are going to the beach, swimming, and hiking. I’m a huge animal lover-I’ve got a big black cat named Marley, and he’s my best pal!
Where’s your favourite place to visit in Saskatchewan?
I really like anywhere with a lake-it’s got to have water. So, I think Waskesiu is a fantastic place to visit, Candle Lake, and if you want to go down South, Buffalo Pound is a really fun place to go. There are actually tons of lakes, campsites, and things like that around Saskatchewan that make for a really nice weekend.
If you could choose 3 words to describe yourself, which would you choose?
Ambitious, upbeat and…funny? I think I’m funny!
What inspires you?
I think the most rewarding part of my job is getting to see how excited people are with achieving their real estate goals. One of the biggest things that people do in their life is buying or selling their home. When everything goes well, and people are really, really happy with what they’ve purchased, I think that’s one of the most fulfilling moments.
Why do you love Saskatoon?
I love Saskatoon because it’s an excellent blend of everything you love about a bigger center. It’s got places to go eat and places to go shopping, things are open late, and you’ve got SkipTheDishes. But it also has all the things that people like about a smaller community. It wouldn’t be unusual to walk down the street and see someone you know. And so I really like that sort of social aspect. I also really like that, in terms of real estate, Saskatoon is still incredibly affordable compared to other markets across the country. Saskatchewan and Saskatoon are places where young people and first-time buyers can still afford to purchase a home. And, so, I think that’s really fantastic.
If you could give any seller one piece of advice, what would it be?
Focus on the small details. Focus on cleaning, focus on touching up those little things. Don’t worry about great big kitchen and bathroom renovations, but don’t skip over those small details at the end because those are the things buyers will notice first when they walk through their property.
Is there anything else that you think people should know about you when considering whether or not to work with you?
I want people to know that I am invested in their purchase or sale, and I really do care about seeing a positive outcome. I am not all about getting the job done as fast as possible. What’s more important to me is that you buy a house that you love or that you’re happy with the terms of the sale of your home.
When it comes to real estate, I feel lucky in that I’ve had a lot of experience in a wide variety of properties; single-family homes, investment properties, acreages, and cabins. I’ve had a chance to do it all, so I’ve learned a lot, and I really love that.
